Brief History of the Hard Rock Cafe

In 1971, friends Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton founded the first Hard Rock Café in a former Rolls Royce showroom near Hyde Park in London: a café-restaurant with rock-and-roll music, posters and loudspeakers on the walls. A second cafe came to Toronto a few years later, and in the 1980s more branches followed in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Sydney and Berlin. The menus differ per city, but almost always include nachos, chicken feet, hamburgers and sandwiches. In addition to Hard Rock Cafés, hotels and casinos have been added in the past few years.

Nowadays, with branches in 68 countries, including 163 cafés, 23 hotels and 11 casinos, Hard Rock International (HRI) is one of the most successful companies in the world. Hard Rock once started its collection with an Eric Clapton guitar and is now the world’s largest exhibitor of music memorabilia. These memorabilia are shown to fans at all locations worldwide. In addition, Hard Rock is known for its popular clothing line, music-related merchandise, the Hard Rock Live venues and the delicious food and drinks.
