The Amsterdam Sex Museum is exactly that — a collection of art and artifacts all devoted to the wondrous, and at times taboo, world of human sexuality. The self-proclaimed world’s first museum devoted entirely to sex, the “Venustempel” is a multi-story building housing rooms filled wall-to-wall with things that might make you blush. These include photographs of prostitutes from the 1800s, life-sized mannequins performing sex acts, and genitalia-themed furniture! With so much to see, there is truly something that can interest everyone.
While it may seem to be just a museum full of sex and nudity, the collection strives to create a noteworthy sense of understanding and acceptance toward all forms of sensual and self-love. The artwork on the walls showcase creativity highlighting local and international artists, and ancient toys and figurines allow for a unique look into the history of human sexuality.
