How do you order food in Amsterdam?

In the Netherlands, there are different ways to order food. Most restaurants have their own websites with online order menus. Not sure what you want yet, and looking for an overview of restaurants nearby? Then the Just Eat App (Thuisbezord.nl app in the Netherlands) is the way to go. Here you’ll find plenty of restaurants, useful reviews and an average delivery time.

Ordering for Just Eat App users

If you’ve already used Just Eat before, there’s no need to get the Dutch Thuisbezorgd.nl app. You can simply use your Just Eat app and it will automatically show delivery restaurants in Amsterdam, once your location has been detected/set to an address in Amsterdam. Also, you will not need to create an extra account; you can use everything as you would at home!

About the Just Eat / Thuisbezorgd.nl apps

The Apps are also packed with handy and fun features that make ordering your favourite meals extra easy. For example, you will regularly find attractive offers and discounts, allowing you to enjoy your favourite dishes at a lower price. Smart filters also allow you to quickly select the type of cuisine, delivery time, price or dietary requirements, so you can find exactly what you’re craving in just a few taps. Moreover, the app remembers your previous orders, so your favourite meal is on the table even faster. In short: convenience and advantage in one app!

What you need to know

There are a few things to consider when ordering food. For instance, many restaurants are open from late afternoon to late evening. But there are also places that only take orders in the morning, or late at night. They often list this information on the apps or websites.

Delivery

Make sure to enter the correct address to see only the restaurants that deliver to your doorstep. Furthermore, it’s good to know that;

  • There are often delivery charges that come with your order. Usually these added charges are between € 1 and € 3. You don’t always have to pay delivery charges: at some restaurants, it’s free if you order above a certain amount.
  • Sunday evenings are usually the busiest hours for delivery restaurants, so your order typically takes longer than specified.
  • Not all hotels/accommodations allow ordering food in. In case of doubt, check with the reception.
  • An address is always required to order. If you’re in a park, for instance, and you want to order food, make sure to wait at a building with a house number where the driver can navigate to. Also, make extra sure to keep your phone on, in case the restaurant/driver tries to reach you.
  • Tipping is not mandatory, but certainly appreciated. If you want to give a tip, you can hand it in cash or use the Just Eat/Thuisbezorgd app.

Allergies and dietary requirements

If you suffer from allergies or have specific dietary requirements, you can often already see on the menu which products are or are not in your food. You can also add comments to the selected items before placing your order; e.g. ‘no milk due to allergy’ or something similar.
