Program is a coffeeshop in the De Pijp neighbourhood, close to the Albert Cuyp Market, and one of the shops featured on our best coffeeshops in Amsterdam list. It’s known for its design-led interior and a more structured approach to service. The name refers to professional and gram.

The interior: light, modern and detailed
The interior differs from the classic idea of a dim, smoky coffeeshop. It’s light, clean and modern, with a look that leans closer to a concept store than a traditional coffeeshop. The lighting, layout and product displays appear carefully thought through.
There’s also branded merchandise on display: clothing on the wall, and cabinets with rolling trays and caps for sale. It gives the shop a distinct, branded feel compared to some of the more traditional coffeeshops nearby.

Service, pricing and safety
Program combines a polished setting with prices that are lower than you might expect for a shop this designed. Staff know the menu and take time to explain the options, which makes it approachable for first-time visitors.
There’s a security guard at the door, and staff work with gloves in a calm setting. As everywhere in the Netherlands, entry is 18+ and valid ID is required.

What to try
A few things here are worth going out of your way for.
| Homemade space cake | Made in-house and one of the best we’ve tried anywhere in the city |
| Pre-rolled joints | Neatly rolled, ready to go and handled with gloves |
| House drinks | Program’s own range, a nice extra alongside your visit |
| Vape pen | A smoke-free option, so non-smokers aren’t left out |

A lot of choice between pre-rolled joints.

This looks so yummy!
Our verdict
Program is a well-regarded coffeeshop in De Pijp, known for its design-led interior, clear guidance from staff and competitive prices. It’s a convenient option if you’re already near the Albert Cuyp Market. See how it compares on our best coffeeshops in Amsterdam page.
Space cake, done right
Edibles behave nothing like smoking, and helping you understand that is exactly the sort of thing Program is about. Here is the short version before you try that homemade space cake.
| Smoking or vaping | Space cake (edible) |
| Kicks in within minutes | Takes 30 to 90 minutes to kick in |
| Lasts around 1 to 2 hours | Lasts several hours |
| Easy to pace as you go | Start with a small piece, then wait a full hour |
The golden rule is simple: start low, go slow. If you are not sure, just ask, the staff would much rather help you get the dose right than watch you overdo it.
Your first visit, step by step
New to coffeeshops? Here is how a visit to Program usually goes.
- Bring valid ID. You’ll show it at the door, where the security guard keeps things calm and safe.
- Just ask. Tell the staff what you’re after and they’ll explain the menu and suggest something to match.
- Pick your format. Pre-rolled joints, the homemade space cake, or the vape pen if you’d rather not smoke.
- Take your time. Settle into the space and pace yourself, especially with edibles.

A vape pen. Ask at the counter.

They sell their own branded soda.
