Opening Keukenhof 2024

29 March, 2024 in Blog by Floris

With the start of spring, Keukenhof 2024 opens her doors to visitors from around the world; this year, the opening will be from the 21st of March till the 12th of May 2024. In 2023, over 1,4 million visitors purchased a Keukenhof ticket. You can imagine that with such a large number of visitors, Keukenhof limits the availability of tickets. Tickets for Keukenhof are always dated and also have a timeslot. This way, Keukenhof tries to ensure all visitors have a comfortable visit. Especially on the weekends, timeslots tend to sell out. Therefore, we strongly recommend buying tickets in advance online! If you want to avoid the biggest crowds, we recommend you book either very early or late on the day and try to avoid the weekend.

Keukenhof: photos of previous years

The pictures below are taken just after the opening of the Keukenhof 2018. In the greenhouses, all flowers were in full bloom. However, because of the cold winter, most tulips outside are still waiting to bloom. Depending on the early warm weather, the best time to visit the Keukenhof in 2024 will be probably 2 or 3 weeks after the opening. The rising temperatures will be rising will definitely influence the flowers to bloom. Our expectations are that the Keukenhof is going to be its prettiest from the 11th of April till the first week of May, close to the end of the season. However, also after the first week of May till the end of the season, you’ll have more than enough flowers to see!

Hi, many thanks for providing this space to ask questions. My friend and I are planning to visit the Keukenhof garden around the last weekend of April from Ireland. I was wondering,
1.) if that time is too late for seeing the full bloom, as the flowers might have spent blooming? Or is it ok?
2.) Which is the best place to stay? We will be flying from Dublin to Schifol.
Is there any good two day itinerary to make the most of our trip?
    Many thanks in advance.

      Hi Sonali,

1.) That’s difficult to say at the moment. The exact moment most flowers are in bloom depends on the development of temperatures the coming months. The earlier temperatures go up, the earlier flowers will bloom. However, Keukenhof plants the flower bulbs in such a way that during the entire duration of their opening, there will be more than enough flowers in bloom.
2.) That depends on your personal preferences. You can stay in the “flower bulb region” if you like a more laid-back rural stay, but you can also stay in Amsterdam or The Hague for instance. There will be more livelihood there and you can plan some nice activities besides Keukenhof. As the Netherlands is fairly compact, the distance won’t be an issue.

I hope this helps, enjoy your stay!

Do I need to reserve / buy in advance bus ticket from Haarlem central station to Keukenhof?

    • Dani Jan 9, 2024 at 11:16 am

I don’t believe it’s strictly necessary, but it might be good for your peace of mind, especially if it’s a busy time slot.

Are there wheelchairs for rent in the park?

  • Elgene Henry May 9, 2023 at 4:12 pm

We just visited the beautiful gardens and did not get to purchase all the gifts and souvenirs that we wanted. We live the USA in Texas. Is there a a place we can order gifts from?
    Thank you

There are some shops that sell similar products at the airport. Depending on what you’re exactly looking for, you can probably also find some sellers online.
